Coffee is one of the main economic activities in the municipality of Planadas. For as long as he can remember, Victor Hugo has been related to the production of coffee. Victor’s parents have been coffee producers for many years now and since he was just a kid, Victor learned all the basic processes involved in producing coffee by watching his parents in their daily activities. Later, he started to investigate and study everything about coffee, to improve the quality of the coffee throughout better processing and practices. Now, Victor and his brother are taking over the responsibilities of the farm to continue with the legacy. “When I started learning more about coffee, everything I wanted was being able to sell my coffee at a good price to improve to be able to have a better quality of life as well as improve the infrastructure where coffee was processed. I knew that the only way was by focusing on producing specialty coffee.” remembers Victor Hugo. Today, 100% of the coffee he produces goes to the specialty market. Additionally, for more than 7 years, the coffee has been produced organically on Finca El Mirador.
“My coffee is special because we take care of the environment, we protect the birds and all the fauna that surrounds the farm. Year after year, our priority is to implement best practices to protect the environment as well as to improve the quality of our coffee.” says Victor Hugo. Finca el Mirador operates like a beautiful family business. Victor works on the farm with his two parents, his brother, his niece and his wife, Daniela. They all have very clear what are their tasks on the farm. They all work towards the same objective: produce amazing coffee whilst taking care of the planet
